U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed on Friday that the United States will deploy additional military assets to the Middle East, including B-52 bombers, fighter jets, refueling aircraft and Navy destroyers.

This deployment comes as the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group prepares to leave the region.

Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder stated that these moves are aimed at safeguarding U.S. citizens and forces, ensuring the defense of Israel, and promoting deterrence through a show of military strength. The U.S. military will take “every measure necessary” to protect its personnel and interests if Iran or its proxies decide to escalate attacks in the region.

Recent reports indicate that Iran may be planning a strike against Israel from Iraqi territory before the upcoming U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5. The U.S. has previously deployed the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system to Israel in response to these escalating threats.

This military adjustment follows an uptick in hostilities, including exchanges of fire between Israel and Iran, as well as Israel’s ongoing operations against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The U.S. has pledged to defend Israel against any attacks and to protect American forces in the Middle East, who have faced threats from Iran-backed groups across multiple countries.

The enhanced U.S. military presence underscores the commitment to regional stability amidst rising tensions and ongoing conflicts.
