Turkish scientist marks spot in top US Doctors list
Dr. Mehmet Furkan Burak, 36, traveled to the U.S. as a researcher at the behest of professor Aziz Sancar, a Nobel Prize laureate
Dr. Mehmet Furkan Burak was recognized as one of the top doctors in the United States by Castle Connolly – a reputable health evaluation organization that acknowledged only the top 6% of physicians in their annual list featured in Boston Magazine in February.
While studying at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, Burak served as a researcher in Sancar’s laboratory for three months in 2007 following an invitation from the professor.
Upon completing his studies at the university, he began his tenure at Harvard University’s Department of Genetics and Complex Diseases with Sancar’s endorsement.
During his senior year, Burak gained admission to the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School. He vividly recalls Sancar’s commendation in his recommendation letter, stating: “I rank him among the top three interns I have collaborated with thus far.”
Having dedicated nearly 12 years to Harvard Medical School, Burak is presently overseeing human trials for his anti-obesity medication.
“I embarked on my journey as a Harvard Medical School faculty member at the age of 32, focusing on the analysis of obesity patients and the development of obesity treatments in the laboratory,” Burak shared.
“We are currently progressing with human trials for the application of a newly discovered molecule, which originated from our clinical research team, in combating obesity. Additionally, I am engaged in teaching at two universities as part of a collaborative program between Harvard and MIT,” he elaborated.
