Türkiye releases list of tax debtors owing over $145,000
Türkiye’s Revenue Administration of the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance has released a list of taxpayers with tax and penalty debts exceeding ₺5 million (approximately $145,614.95). This list comprises a total of 36,806 taxpayers, including 7,948 individuals and 28,858 corporate entities.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek stated, “Of the 36,806 taxpayers we are naming as tax debtors, 30,696 have debts that are uncollectible. This means that 88.8% of these receivables cannot be collected.”
The total amount of unpaid taxes and penalties has reached ₺914.9 billion, with the uncollectible amount estimated at ₺812.8 billion.
Among those listed, 4,807 taxpayers are still active, accounting for 13.1% of the total number of taxpayers, while the number of deregistered taxpayers stands at 31,999.
Major tax debtors disclosed
The Revenue Administration has published two separate lists concerning taxpayers with significant debts:
- List of tax assessments exceeding ₺5 million (from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024):
- Yurtpet Fuel Oil: ₺1.27 billion
- Mir Precious Metals and Trade: ₺740.7 million
- Ospet Petroleum: ₺603.83 million
- List of tax debtors with unpaid amounts exceeding ₺5 million as of Dec. 31, 2023 (due by Sept. 30, 2024):
- Turtab Tobacco Products: ₺3.02 billion
- International Fuel Distribution: ₺2.45 billion
- Enkad Construction and Metal: ₺2.26 billion
Clarification on tax debtors
Minister Simsek emphasized that not everyone on the list should be directly labeled as a “tax debtor.” He explained that the list includes individuals with incomplete tax declarations, those who have not submitted any tax returns, and those who have wrongly received tax refunds.
