Türkiye’s crude oil transport via pipelines sees slight decline in September

The amount of crude oil transported through pipelines in Türkiye saw a 1.2% decrease in September compared to the previous month, according to Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) data.

In September, the flow of crude oil through four main pipelines amounted to 25.609 million barrels, down from 25.925 million barrels in August.

BOTAS reports decline in monthly oil flow

Data from BOTAS indicated that Türkiye operates five crude oil pipelines, including the Iraq-Türkiye, Ceyhan-Kirikkale, Batman-Dortyol, Dortyol-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipelines.

However, there has been no oil flow through the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline for nearly two years.

Breakdown of oil flows through major pipelines

In September, oil transported through the Ceyhan-Kirikkale pipeline totaled 2.563 million barrels, while the Batman-Dortyol pipeline carried 3.09 million barrels. Additionally, 2.563 million barrels were transported via the Dortyol-Ceyhan pipeline.

In particular, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline (BTC) saw an increase in crude oil flow, rising from 16.849 million barrels in August to 17.393 million barrels in September.

Total oil flow in first nine months of 2024

From January to September 2024, the Ceyhan-Kirikkale pipeline transported 25.013 million barrels, the Batman-Dortyol pipeline carried 25.859 million barrels, and the Dortyol-Ceyhan pipeline transported 24.833 million barrels.

The BTC pipeline moved 164.926 million barrels, contributing to a cumulative total of 240.631 million barrels of crude oil transported through Türkiye’s pipelines in the first nine months of the year.
