Israel seeking to ignite regional conflict with Western backing: President Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Saturday accused Israel of trying to ignite a regional conflict with the support of Western powers, following Israel’s attack on Iran.
Erdogan made the comments during a ceremony in Hatay, southern Türkiye, where new homes were delivered to those affected by the February 2023 earthquakes.
Erdogan emphasized that Israel’s current approach would not succeed, warning against falling into what he described as a trap set by Israel and its allies. “With this mindset, Israel will achieve nothing,” he remarked, cautioning against further escalation.
Erdogan’s remarks about Israel targeting Iran
Erdogan addressed Israel’s recent actions, specifically condemning the attack on Iran. He expressed solidarity with Türkiye’s neighbor, stating, “I extend my best wishes to our neighbor Iran and the Iranian government, who were targeted by Israeli aggression last night.”
Erdogan warns against regional escalation
In his remarks, Erdogan highlighted the dangers of a wider regional conflict, urging restraint from all parties involved.
He stressed that Israel’s actions could destabilize the region further, urging the international community to recognize the potential consequences of such hostilities.
New homes delivered in Hatay
The Turkish president’s comments came as he presided over a ceremony in Hatay, where homes were delivered to those who lost their residences in the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye in February.
The president reiterated his government’s commitment to rebuilding and supporting those affected.
