Iran has declared its right to self-defense in response to Israeli airstrikes on its military facilities, citing international law as the basis for its position.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a written statement condemning Israel’s actions and asserting that Tehran will take all necessary measures to protect its people and interests.

Iran cites UN charter for right to defend against foreign attacks

In the statement, Iran referred to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which provides countries with the right to self-defense in the event of an armed attack. “As repeatedly emphasized by Iranian authorities, Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself against foreign aggression,” the statement said.

The ministry further condemned Israel’s “aggressive actions” as a violation of international law, specifically calling the airstrikes on military sites in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam illegal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the aggressive action of the Zionist regime against several military centers in Iran as a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, especially the principle of prohibiting the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries, and has condemned it in the most severe manner.

It condemns. As has been emphasized many times by the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself entitled and obliged to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression, based on the inherent right of legitimate defense, which is also reflected in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Iran also extended its gratitude to nations that condemned Israel’s airstrikes. The statement reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to using all resources available to protect the safety and critical interests of its citizens.

Israel blamed for regional instability

The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of being the source of insecurity and tension in the region, citing its ongoing actions in Gaza and Lebanon. The ministry called on all member states of the United Nations and parties to the Geneva Conventions to take collective action against Israel for its alleged violations of international law.

The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes on using all the material and spiritual capabilities of the Iranian nation to defend its security and vital interests, and also by standing by its duties towards regional peace and security, the individual and collective responsibility of all countries in the region to protect peace. And it notes the stability of the region and appreciates all the peace-loving countries in the region and other countries that have expressed their disgust and condemned the aggressive action of the occupying Israeli regime by understanding the existing dangerous conditions.

Undoubtedly, the continuation of the occupation, illegal actions and crimes of the Zionist regime in the region, especially the genocide of the Palestinian people and aggression against Lebanon – which has continued in the shadow of the all-round military and political support of the United States and some other western countries – is the main cause of tension and insecurity in is the area.
