Six suspects were detained during a counterterrorism operation targeting the terrorist organization PKK/YPG in Bitlis, according to a statement from the provincial governor’s office.

Coordinated raids across Bitlis

The operation, led by the Bitlis Provincial Police’s Counterterrorism Unit, aimed to uncover and disrupt the activities of the PKK/YPG. Raids were conducted simultaneously on Thursday in the city center and the Ahlat and Guroymak districts.

Authorities confirmed that six suspects were taken into custody during the operation. During searches of their residences, police seized various digital materials and a piece of fabric symbolizing the PKK/YPG.

Efforts to disrupt PKK/YPG activities

The ongoing operation is part of broader efforts by Türkiye to combat the activities of the PKK/YPG, which has been designated a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States and the European Union.

Local authorities stressed their commitment to dismantling the group’s networks and preventing any planned actions.

Besides arresting the suspects, law enforcement officials confiscated digital devices and materials believed to be linked to the PKK/YPG’s operations. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are being held for questioning.

The Bitlis governor’s office emphasized that security operations against terrorist organizations will continue, in line with Türkiye’s efforts to ensure public safety and counterterrorism-related activities.
