Terrorist group PKK/YPG on Friday claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on a state-run Turkish defense firm in the capital Ankara.
Five people died and 22 people were injured as a result of the attack on Oct. 23.
PKK is designed as a terrorist group by Türkiye since 1984.
“The act of sacrifice at TAI campus in Ankara at around 15:30 (3:30 p.m.) local time on Wednesday was carried out by a team of the immortals battalion” of the PKK, it said on Telegram, referring to Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).
The organization stated that the attack was planned for a long time denying any link with the recent likely peace process in Türkiye.
Background of attack on TAI
TAI is a crucial player in Türkiye’s defense industry. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the attack aimed to undermine Türkiye’s objective of achieving independence in its defense sector.
He emphasized that TAI is one of the “locomotive organizations” of the Turkish defense industry and asserted that such assaults directly target Türkiye’s vision of a “fully independent Türkiye.”
