Besiktas secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Lyon in an away match during the third week of the UEFA Europa League, thanks to a decisive goal from Gedson Fernandes. This win marked the end of Lyon’s impressive 13-match unbeaten streak in the group stage of the competition.

With this result, Besiktas climbed to 27th place in the standings with 3 points, while Lyon remains in 10th place with 6 points.

Gedson Fernandes shines in Europe

Gedson Fernandes continued his stellar form, scoring his fourth goal of the season in European competitions, making him Besiktas’ top scorer. His last three goals were assisted by Rafa Silva, showcasing a strong attacking partnership.

Tribute to terror attack victims

Both Beşiktaş and Lyon wore black armbands in solidarity with the victims of the recent terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

Besiktas players also donned black jerseys, shorts, and socks as part of the tribute.

Besiktas’ win not only ended Lyon’s unbeaten run but also boosted the Turkish club’s chances in the Europa League campaign.
