Turkish soldier loses life in terrorist attack in northern Iraq
A Turkish soldier martyred in a terrorist attack in northern Iraq as Türkiye continues operations against PKK threats
The Ministry of National Defense announced Tuesday that a Turkish soldier lost his life in a terrorist attack in northern Iraq.
During an attack and infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Operation Claw-Lock zone, one soldier was killed and four others were wounded, the ministry reported.
The injured soldiers received immediate medical attention and were transported to a hospital for treatment, while six terrorists were eliminated during the ongoing operations in the region, the ministry added.
Expressing condolences to the soldier’s family, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the entire nation, the ministry did not specify the affiliation of the terrorists.
However, the PKK terror group is known to be active in the area.
Operation Claw-Lock, launched in April 2022, aims to target the hideouts of the PKK terror organization in Iraq’s northern Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan regions near the Turkish border.
This operation follows Operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle, initiated in 2020 to eliminate terrorists hiding in northern Iraq and planning cross-border attacks into Türkiye.
