Turkish Armed Forces launch strikes on terrorist organization PKK targets in Syria and Iraq
Security sources reported that the Turkish Armed Forces have begun targeting terrorist organization PKK/YPG positions in Syria and Iraq.
It is believed that TUBITAK SAGE SERT-82 or TUBITAK SAGE HGK-82 munitions produced by Türkiye with domestic facilities were used.
This follows the terrorist attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries complex in Ankara on Wednesday, which Turkish officials link to the PKK terrorist organization.
Türkiye’s Defense Ministry announced the execution of air operations targeting terrorist elements in northern Iraq and Syria on October 23, 2024. The operations aimed to eliminate PKK/YPG and other terrorist groups to protect Turkish citizens and security forces while ensuring border security.
47 PKK/YPG targets destroyed
“The operations were executed under the legitimate defense rights derived from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, resulting in the successful destruction of a total of 47 terrorist targets. Air operations will continue resolutely,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, the ministry highlighted the use of a significant amount of domestic and national ammunition during the operations, which led to the elimination of numerous terrorists.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to combat terrorism until not a single terrorist remains.
Listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S. and the EU, the PKK is responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people in its nearly 40-year campaign of terror against Türkiye. The YPG is the PKK’s extension in Syria.
According to initial reports, 59 terrorists, including two high-ranking individuals, have been neutralized.
The operations are part of Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and enhance national security. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have stated that these strikes aim to dismantle terrorist organizations that threaten the country’s stability.
