Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs announced that it has accepted Türkiye’s extradition request for four Turkish citizens and handed them over to Turkish authorities.

The decision was made in light of the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Strong Türkiye-Kenya relations lead to extradition

In a statement released on Monday, Kenyan officials said they agreed to the extradition request after receiving assurances from Türkiye that the individuals would be treated with dignity, in accordance with both national and international law.

Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya released the statement on X, formerly known as Twitter Monday.

The four individuals were deported on Friday, but neither their identities nor the reasons for Türkiye’s extradition request were disclosed. But according to reports, the four individuals are associated with the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO). Those brought under Turkish custody are Alparslan Tasci, Mustafa Genc, Huseyin Yesilsa, and Ozturk Uzun.

Kenya reaffirms commitment to refugee protection

Kenya, which hosts approximately 780,000 refugees, primarily from Somalia, reiterated its commitment to protecting refugees within its borders.
