President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday offered condolences for Yahya Sinwar, a prominent Hamas leader killed in an Israeli attack, marking the first time the Turkish leader has publicly mentioned Sinwar’s death.

Speaking in Istanbul, Erdogan acknowledged Sinwar’s passing, saying, “I offer my condolences to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed a few days ago.”

Erdogan went on to emphasize Türkiye’s continued support for the Palestinian people, condemning Israel’s actions. “As Türkiye, we stand against the oppressor and stand with the oppressed. We are on the side of the Palestinian people in their dignified struggle for freedom against this genocide network,” he stated.

The Turkish president praised the Palestinian resistance and honored its leaders, adding, “I salute all the heroes who have become legendary with their martyrdom, watering the lands of Gaza with their sacred blood.”

Erdogan’s remarks also included praise for Ismail Haniyeh, the last elected Prime Minister of Palestine and a prominent figure in Hamas.
