4.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Turkish city Sivas, no casualties reported
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake shook Sivas on Thursday morning, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The earthquake occurred at 11:29 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located in the central district of Sivas.
AFAD confirms depth and magnitude of quake
AFAD confirmed on its official website that the earthquake had a depth of 10.57 kilometers (6.21 miles). The tremor was felt across the region, but no immediate damage or casualties have been reported.
Authorities are currently conducting on-site investigations to ensure the safety of residents, with local AFAD teams actively monitoring the situation.
Officials report no initial damage or casualties
Following the quake, Sivas AFAD officials announced that no significant damage or injuries had been reported. “Initial assessments show no loss of life or destruction. Teams are on the ground, conducting thorough inspections in the affected areas,” AFAD officials stated.
Ministers statement on earthquake
Türkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya addressed the incident via social media, extending his well wishes to those affected by the quake.
“AFAD and all relevant institutions immediately began field assessments following the earthquakes in Sivas. As of now, there are no reports of any adverse situations. I extend my best wishes to our citizens,” Yerlikaya said.
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum also said no negativity has been reported after the 4.7 and 4.1 magnitude earthquakes in Sivas.
In a statement made on his social media account, Kurum said, “No negativity has been reported after the earthquakes in Sivas, but our teams continue their work in the field.”
Expressing his get well wishes to the citizens, Kurum said, “May Allah protect our country and our nation from all kinds of disasters.”
In his message, the minister also offered prayers for the safety of the nation, saying, “May Allah protect our country and people from disasters.”
Second tremor reported shortly after
In addition to the 4.7 magnitude earthquake, a second tremor of 4.1 magnitude occurred shortly after. Both quakes prompted swift action from emergency response teams, who are continuing to survey the impacted areas.
