Türkiye uncovers criminal content on over 5K social media accounts

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that cyber patrols identified criminal content in 5,018 social media accounts between Sept. 28 and Oct. 12, 2024. Yerlikaya emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to combating cybercrime, particularly through continuous monitoring.

“During the 14-day period, 2,705 accounts shared content related to public order crimes, 1,184 were linked to terrorism, 383 to security, 84 to cybercrime, 95 to narcotics, 70 to smuggling, and 497 to other offenses,” Yerlikaya reported.

Türkiye’s cybercrime prevention efforts to strengthen

Yerlikaya highlighted that these patrols are part of Türkiye’s broader efforts to safeguard public safety online, stressing that cybercriminals target vulnerable populations, including children and young adults.

“We will not show mercy to those who try to poison our society, especially our children and youth, with their perverted thoughts on social media,” Yerlikaya said.

Yerlikaya added, “Our cyber patrols work around the clock to prevent crime and protect our citizens. We will not spare those who spread harmful ideologies, especially targeting young minds”

Call for nationwide cooperation

In his message, Yerlikaya urged collaboration across all sectors of society. “To effectively prevent cybercrime, we must fight together as a nation. Media outlets, schools, universities, parents, civil organizations, and all institutions must cooperate,” he stated.
