Ruling AK Party considers post-election changes
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) continues its internal deliberations on the election results, with party leader President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressing the need for organizational adjustments during meetings with his advisors.
The first sign of the restructuring emerged with resignations from Rize, a coastal city in the eastern part of the Black Sea Region of Türkiye, where the AK Party secured its highest vote share of 54.7% in the local elections.
Erdogan calls for party restructuring
At the AK Party Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting, Erdogan underscored the importance of adapting to changing dynamics within the party.
“We are actively reviewing the election outcomes. As our analysis progresses, we will introduce necessary changes,” Erdogan said.
“These adjustments will be made smoothly and carefully, avoiding divisions or discontent,” the president added.
In line with Erdogan’s directives, various provinces have undergone organizational changes.
The first resignation occurred in Rize, an AK Party stronghold where it garnered its highest vote percentage. The provincial chairpersons of Adiyaman and Batman also tendered their resignations.
Changes in Ankara
Changes are also evident in the Ankara provincial branch, where several unit coordinators have been replaced.
Reports indicated that these organizational adjustments will extend to metropolitan areas as well.
Notably, changes have been made to key positions such as provincial secretary, deputy provincial chairman for civil society and public relations, deputy provincial chairman for research and development (R&D), and deputy provincial chairman for information and communication technologies in Ankara.
