Benfica, one of Portugal’s leading football clubs, continues acquiring Turkish players.

After adding Kerem Akturkoglu from Galatasaray, the club has now turned its attention to Ismail Yuksek, the 25-year-old midfielder from Fenerbahce.

The transfer is expected to unfold in January, with Benfica preparing to strengthen its midfield.

Correiro da Manha reported that Benfica is prioritizing the signing of Ismail Yuksek for its midfield. Bruno Lage, Benfica’s head coach, has expressed his desire to bring in Yuksek because of his unique skills. The club’s midfield lacks a player with the same qualities as Florentino Luis, and Lage sees Yuksek as a solution to fill this gap.

“Yuksek brings the qualities we need in the midfield,” one source noted, pointing to his defensive capabilities and tactical intelligence. Benfica is reportedly ready to make an offer of $11 million, though Fenerbahce values Yuksek at $15.4 million.

Currently under contract with Fenerbahce until 2027, Yuksek has already made 91 appearances for the club, contributing two goals and seven assists.

Despite not scoring or assisting in the current season, his defensive play and experience have made him a target for several European clubs.

Benfica seems eager to add him to the roster, especially after successfully signing Orkun Kokcu and Kerem Akturkoglu. The Portuguese club’s management is expected to make a formal offer in January.
