On Oct. 7, 2024, marking one year since the onset of its attacks on Gaza, the Israeli military released detailed reports on its operations in the region. According to Israel, it has bombed over 40,000 targets, discovered 4,700 tunnel shafts, and destroyed 1,000 rocket launcher sites since the conflict began.

Israel’s military losses and more

Israel’s military reported that 726 soldiers have been killed since the war began. Of these, 380 died during the initial Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023, and 346 were killed during clashes in Gaza, which intensified on Oct. 27, 2023.

In total, 4,576 Israeli troops have been injured, and 56 soldiers died in operational accidents, which the Israeli military did not specify.

To bolster its military forces, Israel enlisted 300,000 reservists, with 82% men and 18% women, between the ages of 20 and 29.

Rocket attacks from multiple fronts

Since the conflict started, Israel reported over 13,200 rocket attacks from Gaza. An additional 12,400 rockets were launched from Lebanon, while smaller numbers were fired from Syria (60), Yemen (180) and Iran (400), according to the Israeli military.

Lebanon and the occupied West Bank

In Lebanon, Israeli forces reported the killing of more than 800 militants and claimed to have struck 4,900 air targets and about 6,000 ground targets.

The Israeli military also reported the arrest of over 5,000 “suspects” in raids that they conducted in the occupied West Bank and Jordan Valley.

Commanders targeted in Gaza

Israel stated that it killed eight senior brigade commanders, about 30 battalion commanders, and 165 company commanders from militant groups in Gaza over the course of the year.

Humanitarian toll in Gaza

The conflict was triggered by the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the capture of around 250 Israeli hostages, according to Israeli officials. As of the one-year mark, more than 100 hostages are still reportedly alive and with Hamas.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry reported nearly 42,000 Palestinians killed in Israel’s military operations and many of them are civilians.
