Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus announced that the foreign minister and national defense minister will brief Parliament on Israel’s attempted invasion of Lebanon and other regional developments on Oct. 8.

Kurtulmus emphasized, “Israel is not an inviolable country. The idea that ‘Israel cannot be touched’ is incorrect.” His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where Israeli actions have raised concerns among neighboring countries.

What happened?

In a recent address to Parliament, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated, “Israel’s target is Türkiye.” He further explained during his participation in the Tenofest event, “A plan has been established that will not be limited to Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Anyone familiar with history, politics and diplomacy can easily understand the connection of this issue to Jerusalem. We know well what the Promised Lands are. Just 33 kilometers away, there is a challenge posed to Türkiye. Israel reveals its intentions with every map it shares.”

The statements from Kurtulmus and Erdogan highlight Türkiye’s growing concerns over Israel’s military actions in the region and underscore the necessity for a unified response from Turkish officials. The upcoming briefing in Parliament is expected to address these critical issues and outline Türkiye’s position on the matter.
