Israeli historian and professor Ilan Pappe has analyzed the escalating tensions in Gaza, highlighting Türkiye‘s potential role in promoting peace in the region.

He stated that Türkiye, as a regional power, could be a crucial player for Palestine, saying: “Ankara can play a key role in achieving peace and can be part of a coalition that offers an alternative to American intervention.”

Critique of war-oriented policies

Pappe criticized the Israeli government’s pro-war stance, asserting, “The political leaders in Israel see the use of force as a solution. We are in a very difficult situation.”

He noted that while Iran and Hezbollah are adopting a more pragmatic approach aimed at preventing conflict, the Israeli government is increasingly leaning toward a war-oriented policy.

Role of US

Pappe pointed out that the United States plays a vital role in establishing a cease-fire in the region.

“The U.S. is the only power capable of compelling Israel to agree to a cease-fire. However, I do not believe the U.S. currently has the political will to take such a step,” he stated. He stressed the need for international actors to engage more decisively in fostering regional peace.

Focus on global peace

Pappe warned that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must involve global actors, as its implications extend beyond the region and threaten global peace.

He emphasized the necessity of active international intervention.

Pappe’s insights highlight the complexity of the current situation and the essential steps for resolution, reiterating the need for international cooperation and diplomatic efforts.
