A group of Gazans, displaced by Israel’s assaults that began on October 7, 2023, enjoyed a special Bosphorus tour while being hosted in Istanbul.

The event was organized through the collaboration of Istanbul’s 1st and 2nd Regional Directorates of Foundations and the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services.

It provided the Gazan families an opportunity to relax and explore the city’s scenic waterways.

The tour, which set off from the Uskudar Valide Sultan Dock, gave participants the chance to see Istanbul’s iconic historic sites up close. A guide provided detailed information about the structures along the Bosphorus Strait, enriching the experience for the guests.

The tour lasted around 1.5 hours, during which Gazan families enjoyed the stunning views of Istanbul’s waterfront. They took photos of the historic landmarks and were served a meal on board.

Children on the tour were treated to face-painting activities, and balloons were handed out to add to the festive atmosphere.

Message of solidarity with Palestine

Osman Bas, Deputy Director of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, expressed his pride in hosting the Gazan families.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have them with us. Our connection with Gaza and Palestine runs deep,” he said, adding that they hoped the children would leave the tour with lasting joy.

Sebahattin Karakoc, Deputy Director of the Istanbul 2nd Regional Directorate of Foundations, spoke of the emotional bond they feel with the people of Gaza.

“Despite the artificial borders, we share a strong heart-to-heart connection. We deeply feel the wounds inflicted on them,” Karakoc stated, reaffirming their commitment to support Gazans in any way they can.

Ongoing struggles in Gaza

Actor Burak Haktanir, also in attendance, highlighted the long-standing suffering in Palestine, which has escalated in recent months.

“The oppression and hardship that have plagued Palestine for years have now reached unbearable levels. Our thoughts, hearts, and prayers are always with the people of Palestine and Gaza,” he remarked.

As the Gazan families continue to find refuge in Istanbul, events like these offer a brief reprieve from the hardships of displacement, allowing them to feel the warmth and solidarity of their hosts in Türkiye.
