Journey of Estas Tonne

Born Stanislav Tonne in Ukraine (formerly the USSR) in 1975, Tonne began his musical training at the age of six. However, he took an 11-year break from music during his adolescence while his family emigrated to various countries. It was in America, as he started performing as a street musician, that he gained his true recognition.

Traveling extensively across Europe and South America, Tonne played without monetary motives, embodying the spirit of a wandering dervish. His musical layers have evolved over time, revealing a distinctive style that merges elements of Flamenco, Latin music, Romani influences, and even electronic sounds. Tonne’s musical journey has also led him to explore Indian culture, collaborating with Indian musicians along the way.

Unique musical experience

Tonne is regarded as one of the best multi-tonal guitarists in the world. His unique fingerstyle technique, reminiscent of the legendary Paco De Lucia, allows him to create intricate melodies. His songs, described as “tabula rasa” by John Locke, provide a blank canvas for listeners to interpret as they wish. With no lyrics to guide them, audiences are invited to surrender to the music.

Tonne’s concerts create a captivating atmosphere, enhanced by the incense he places on his guitar. His music evokes a sense of connection, prompting some to liken him to a modern-day Jesus of music. Each performance is a testament to his improvisational style, which resonates deeply with fans, particularly those who appreciate the solo instrumental form found in Turkish music.
