Besiktas suffers disappointing 4-0 defeat to Ajax
Besiktas faced a disappointing 4-0 loss against Dutch club Ajax in the first week of the UEFA Europa League.
The black-and-white team met Ajax in this prestigious European competition at the Johan Cruijff Arena. The home side dominated the match, with Kian Fitz-Jim scoring in the 31st minute, followed by Mika Godts in the 51st and 73rd minutes, and Kenneth Taylor in the 55th minute.
Looking ahead, Besiktas will host Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany) on October 3, while Ajax will travel to face Slavia Prague (Czech Republic) on the same day.
Besiktas’ first loss this season
This defeat marks Besiktas’s first loss of the season. In their ninth match across all competitions, the black-and-white team recorded its first defeat after winning six and drawing two of their previous games.
Meanwhile, Besiktas experienced its heaviest defeat in over eight months. The last time they lost by a four-goal margin was on January 20, when they fell 4-0 to Pendikspor. After 251 days, they repeated this scoreline against Ajax, disappointing their fans once again.
Besiktas’s nightmare with Ajax
This loss marks the seventh encounter between Besiktas and Ajax, with the Turkish side failing to secure a victory in any of these matches.
Besiktas has faced Ajax in various prestigious tournaments, including the European Cup, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League, and Ajax has triumphed in every matchup. In these encounters, Besiktas managed to score just three goals, while Ajax netted a total of 18.
This defeat also marks Besiktas’s eighth loss in their 11 European matches against Dutch teams.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the head coach of Besiktas, remains winless in his sixth match against Ajax at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Throughout his coaching career, including tenures at Feyenoord and Rangers, van Bronckhorst has faced Ajax six times on the road, suffering defeats each time.
