Fenerbahce wins 2-1 against Union SG in Europa League clash
Fenerbahce, which defeated Belgian representative Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 in the first week of the UEFA Europa League, started the tournament with a victory.
The visiting team, Union Saint-Gilloise, began the match effectively, creating three clear chances in the first 20 minutes but failing to score during this period.
After regaining control of the ball, the yellow-blues became more dominant in the opponent’s half and took the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Caglar Soyuncu.
Fenerbahce, which did not concede any goal opportunities to its opponent in the remaining part of the first half, finished with a 1-0 advantage.
Challenging 2nd half
Starting the second half with pressure in the opponent’s half, Fenerbahce struggled to find scoring opportunities.
Fenerbahce relaxed after the opponent was reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute. In the 82nd minute, they increased their lead to 2 with an own goal by Christian Burgess.
In the 90th minute, Bright Osayi-Samuel was sent off with a red card after receiving a second yellow card and committed a foul that led to a penalty.
In the 90+2nd minute, goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic deflected the penalty kick into a corner. In the continuation of the attack, the visiting team found the net with Ross Sykes in the 90+3rd minute, but Fenerbahce left the field victorious with a final score of 2-1.
