Explosion hits Russian diplomatic convoy in Pakistan killing police officer

An explosion struck a convoy carrying Russian diplomats, including Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev, in Pakistan’s northwestern region on Monday, leaving multiple people injured, authorities said.
The blast occurred when an escort vehicle in the convoy hit an explosive device resembling a landmine. The Russian Embassy confirmed that several police officers were wounded in the explosion but said no diplomats were injured.
Russia and Pakistan confirm the incident
In a statement, the Russian Embassy in Islamabad said the convoy was traveling through the Swat district when the explosion occurred. The injured police officers were providing security for the diplomatic delegation.
Speaking to Reuters, Pakistani authorities confirm the attack, with Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ali Gandapur stating that all members of the delegation are safely evacuated from the blast site.
“All ambassadors remained unharmed and were moved to a secure location before heading to Islamabad,” Gandapur said.
Swat police officer Zahidullah Khan said a police officer in the convoy was killed, and four others were injured. “The convoy’s lead security team was hit by a roadside bomb,” Khan added.
