Turkish delegation, led by Mevlut Cavusoglu, visits Azerbaijan to honor Haydar Aliyev and pay respects to martyrs

The Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Turkish Delegation and AK Party Antalya Deputy Mevlut Cavusoglu, along with the accompanying delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly, visited the gravesite of Azerbaijan’s late President Haydar Aliyev and the Turkish and Azerbaijani martyrs’ cemeteries in Baku as part of their official visit.

In his remarks to the press following the visit, Cavusoglu reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan, both during the Second Karabakh War and in the peace process with Armenia. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the stability of the region.

Cavusoglu criticized certain countries for not desiring peace in the region, specifically calling out France for encouraging Armenia not to sign a peace agreement. He underscored that Azerbaijan is always supported and will never be left alone.

Expressing satisfaction with the recent talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Cavusoglu highlighted the importance of continuing bilateral negotiations for more effective results.

Regarding the support of some countries for Armenia, Cavusoglu said: “They can certainly offer economic support to the region and back various projects. However, when it comes to providing weapons and other forms of support, aiding Armenia will not be beneficial for Armenia itself, the supporting countries, or the broader region. They tried this before and saw that it was not beneficial. Instead of taking such negative steps, supporting peace is beneficial for everyone, especially for Armenia.”

Cavusoglu added that Türkiye specifically supports the Zangezur Corridor, which would benefit Armenia, and expressed the desire for this project to come to fruition.

As part of their visit, Cavusoglu is scheduled to meet with Speaker of the Azerbaijani National Assembly Sahibe Gafarova, Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov, and hold meetings with the National Assembly NATO PA and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe delegations.
