Expected life span in Türkiye declines to 77.3 years
According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the expected life span at birth has decreased to 77.3 years compared to the previous period.
The hunger threshold, calculated based on the necessary expenditures for a family of four just for food, has exceeded the minimum wage four times in two years.
Considering the negative factors affecting working life, the healthcare system, housing conditions, and overall human health, life expectancy in Turkiye continues to shorten.
The Turkish Statistical Institute has released a life table data for the years 2021-2023. The “expected life span at birth,” defined as the average number of years a newborn is expected to live if exposed to current mortality risks, is reported to be 77.3 years during this period.
The data indicates a gradual decline in expected life span in Turkiye in recent years. Analysis of data from 2017 onward reveals this decrease is significant. Since the 2017-2019 period, life expectancy has dropped by 1.3 years.
