India successfully tests domestic ballistic missile Agni Prime
India successfully conducts the flight test of its next-generation indigenous ballistic missile Agni Prime, marking a significant advancement in its defense capabilities
India has announced the successful flight test of the next-generation indigenous ballistic missile Agni Prime.
In a statement from the Indian Ministry of Defense, it was reported that the flight test of Agni Prime was successfully conducted in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) off the coast of India’s Odisha state at Abdul Kalam Island.
The statement indicated that the test met the expected objectives.
Sensors placed at different fixed points and on moving targets, such as short-range ships, obtained the test data.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the successfully developed missile will be “a force multiplier” in the armed forces.
Since 2021, trials of the medium-range surface-to-surface Agni Prime missiles, the seventh generation of India-made Agni missile systems, have been ongoing.
The range of Agni Prime missiles varies between 1000 to 2000 kilometers (621.3-1242.7 miles), capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Furthermore, India had also conducted the first test flight of the indigenous Agni-V ballistic missile, capable of carrying multiple warheads in March.
