4000 were wounded in Beirut’s suburbs and other parts of Lebanon after their handheld pagers exploded Tuesday, Lebanese state media and security officials said, in an attack targeting Hezbollah members.

Lebanese media outlets and Sky News Arabia report that Israel managed to hack the portable pagers and cause them to explode.

Eyewitnesses and media reports suggest that the attacks were carried out using explosive wireless devices, specifically pagers. The devices detonated while in the hands of Hezbollah members in various locations, including Tyre and other areas across Lebanon.

Lebanese sources report that the devices are “pagers” used by the Hezbollah to receive short secured messages.

The radio devices carried by Hezbollah members in Lebanon were detonated reportedly by Israeli cyber attacks targeting their pager devices. Dozens of Hezbollah members were reportedly injured.

At least five explosions were reported in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, leading to multiple injuries.
