Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that 34 countries have expressed interest in joining BRICS, saying, “interest in BRICS is on the rise.”

Putin made the remarks during a meeting with officials attending the 14th BRICS High Representatives Meeting on National Security, held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

He noted that representatives from countries joining BRICS as of Jan. 1 were also present at the meeting.

Putin highlighted that numerous meetings have been held within the BRICS framework in various fields and announced that the BRICS Summit will take place from Oct. 22-24 in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the participation of many world leaders.

Emphasizing the importance of BRICS, Putin said: “Interest in BRICS is growing. 34 countries want to participate in BRICS activities in various ways.”
