Türkiye’s labor force statistics for July 2024: Unemployment rate declines to 8.8%
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Türkiye for July 2024 dropped to 8.8%, reflecting a decrease of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous month, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data released for Household Labor Force Survey.
Unemployment rate falls in Türkiye
In July 2024, the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and over fell by 112,000, bringing the total to 3.17 million people. The unemployment rate was estimated at 8.8%, with a gender breakdown showing 7% for men and 12.4% for women.
Employment rate rises
The seasonally adjusted employment rate increased to 49.6%, up by 0.3 percentage points compared to June 2024. The number of employed individuals rose by 235,000, totaling 32.71 million. For men, the employment rate was 67.4%, while for women, it was 32.2%.
Türkiye’s labor force participation
The labor force participation rate for July 2024 increased by 0.1 percentage points, reaching 54.4%. The labor force grew by 123,000 to 35.88 million people. The participation rate was 72.4% for men and 36.8% for women.
Youth unemployment rate in Türkiye decreases
Youth unemployment, for individuals aged 15-24, declined to 16.6%, a decrease of 1 percentage points from the previous month. The youth unemployment rate stood at 12.2% for men and 25.0% for women.
Average weekly working hours in Türkiye
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly working hours were 42.5 in July 2024, marking a decrease of 1.3 hours compared to June.
Labor underutilization rate
The composite measure of labor underutilization, which includes time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployment, was 26.5%, down by 2.7 percentage points.
The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 17.9%, while the combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force was estimated at 18.5%.
