Child abuse cases on rise in Türkiye
According to a 2023 report by the General Directorate of Criminal Records and Statistics under the Ministry of Justice, violence and abuse remain among Türkiye’s most pressing issues. The report highlights significant data regarding criminal investigations for that year. In 2023, prosecutors received 66,138 files related to the crime of child sexual abuse.
The report also shows that 14,919 cases involving “child sexual abuse” were concluded in 2023. Among these, 6,656 cases resulted in convictions, while 6,211 ended in acquittals. Legal proceedings continue in other cases.
The data further indicates that in 342 cases, the announcement of the verdict was postponed, and 1,710 cases resulted in other types of decisions.
Year-over-year data reveals an increase in the number of cases related to child sexual abuse.
