Hamas has agreed to a cease-fire proposal, stating that it will take effect on the first day of Eid al-Fitr if Israel also agrees

Hamas issued its first statement regarding the U.S. proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza coinciding with the Ramadan Bayram holiday.

Hamas emphasized that the U.S. proposal was inadequate because it did not include a permanent cease-fire or mention Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.

Nevertheless, Hamas declared that they would accept the cease-fire proposal. In its statement, Hamas said that in exchange for the release of Israeli prisoners, 900 Palestinian detainees would be released under the proposed six-week cease-fire.

Hamas stated that if Israel agreed, the cease-fire would come into effect on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

In its statement concerning the cease-fire aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which has been targeted by Israeli attacks since Oct. 7, Hamas said that its focus is on prioritizing the interests of the Palestinian people.
