Communist group plans march to Incirlik base with slogan ‘Yankees go home’
In the aftermath of the Türkiye Youth Union‘s recent action in Izmir, where bags were placed over the heads of U.S. soldiers, the Türkiye People’s Assembly, a communist group, has announced plans for a march from Istanbul to the Incirlik Air Base. The march will be held under the slogan “Seize Incirlik, expel America.”
The military base, where American soldiers are stationed under the Defense and Economic Cooperation Agreement signed between Türkiye and the U.S. on March 29, 1980, is frequently targeted by anti-American groups in Türkiye. Various organizations periodically hold protests calling for the closure of Incirlik Air Base.
Türkiye People’s Assembly also launched a campaign titled “Against NATO and Imperialist War” ahead of the planned march.
Erhan Nalcaci, a member of the assembly’s executive board, shared details about the campaign:
We have launched this campaign to say no to NATO and imperialist war. An exhibition of paintings and cartoons will be held, and we have also launched an online exhibit. The exhibition will meet citizens at various points during our march, which will start on September 15 and end in Incirlik on September 29. We will conclude the campaign with a rally in Kartal on November 3.

Anti-American protests in Türkiye are expected to escalate amid growing discontent over continued U.S. support for Israel, which is accused of waging an unjust war against Gaza.
