Huyuk strawberries become Türkiye’s 25th EU-registered geographical indication
Huyuk strawberry has been officially registered as Türkiye’s 25th geographical indication by the European Union, announced by the Industry and Technology Minister Fatih Kacir.
‘Unique taste and values of Anatolia’
The announcement was made via Kacir’s social media post on X.
“We continue to introduce the unique tastes and values of our Anatolia to the world with the international geographical indication campaign we have initiated,” Kacir stated.
“May it be beneficial to our Konya and our country,” he added.
Registration process for 62 other geographical indication applications
The registration of Huyuk strawberry is part of an ongoing initiative led by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT).
Chairman of TURKPATENT, professor Dr. M. Zeki Durak, also shared the news on his social media account, expressing the success of their international geographical indication efforts with the EU.
“The valuable product of our province, Konya, Huyuk strawberry, which we applied to the European Union as TURKPATENT within the scope of the international geographical indication mobilization, has been registered,” Zeki Durak said.
“As a result of our applications to the European Union under our international geographical indication mobilization, Huyuk strawberry has been successfully registered. With this addition, the number of Türkiye’s EU-registered geographical indications has reached 25. We are also continuing the registration process for 62 other applications, five of which are currently in the announcement phase,” Durak later said.
Türkiye’s list of EU-registered geographical indications now includes Gaziantep Baklava desert, Aydin incir (fig), Malatya Kayisi (apricot) and Milas Zeytinyagi (olive oil), among others. The recognition of these products helps to safeguard their unique qualities and promote them on the international stage.
