G-7 leaders convene emergency virtual summit following Iran’s attack on Israel, as U.S. President Joe Biden pledges coordinated response while expressing concerns over escalation

Italy, as the current presiding country of the G-7, has summoned a virtual assembly of G-7 leaders scheduled for Sunday to address Iran’s recent assault on Israel late Saturday.

Expressing her apprehension, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni conveyed via the social media platform X: “We express our deep concern about a further destabilization of the situation in the region and continue to work to avoid that.”

In response to the attack, U.S. President Joe Biden pledged a coordinated diplomatic reaction among G-7 members, denouncing the drone and missile assault.

 “I hope that the Israeli government will adopt a cautious line. I hope that there will be no counterattack to the counterattack,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated.

The G7 Group of 7, seven major industrial countries consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US. In addition, the European Union is represented at all meetings.
 

The G-7 is set to convene its foreign ministers on the Italian island of Capri from April 17-19.

U.S. President Joe Biden has strongly denounced Iran’s drone attacks on military installations in Israel, affirming unwavering support from Washington DC and proposing a coordinated Group of Seven (G-7) diplomatic reaction.

“I will convene my fellow G-7 leaders tomorrow to coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack,” he announced.

According to the statement, U.S. forces and installations remained unscathed, with the U.S. aiding Israel in neutralizing “almost all” of the attacking drones and missiles.

During a call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden reaffirmed the “ironclad” support for Israel’s security, amid strained relations over Israel’s Gaza conflict handling.

“I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel,” Biden stated, as per the White House.
