Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for $100 billion in foreign investment to meet the country’s ambitious goal of 8% economic growth, highlighting the crucial link between Iran’s economic challenges and its foreign relations.

In a recent appearance on state television, Pezeshkian discussed his administration’s plans for domestic and foreign policy, with a strong emphasis on justice, discrimination, and economic reform.

Justice and discrimination: Key focus areas in Iran’s agenda

President Pezeshkian stressed the importance of addressing the public’s concerns and ensuring their satisfaction, despite heavy sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe.

We want to solve the people’s problems. Our focus is on the satisfaction of the people. We are under heavy sanctions by the U.S. and Europe, but we must be kind to the people. We must eliminate discrimination, seek justice, and work towards eradicating deprivation.

Our standard in the government and in evaluating human resources is the satisfaction of the people,” Pezeshkian stated. “We are working to ensure that people from different regions receive the same level of services as those in Tehran.”

President Pezeshkian assured the public that the government is taking steps to address pressing issues faced by retirees, farmers, teachers, and nurses. “Measures have been taken to resolve urgent problems for retirees, farmers, teachers, and nurses. It is unacceptable that a child whose family cannot afford it should receive poor education,” Pezeshkian noted, emphasizing the need for equitable access to quality education across the country.

Addressing Iran’s economic challenges and inflation

Pezeshkian acknowledged economic difficulties facing Iran, including high inflation, and assured the public that his administration is taking steps to resolve these issues. “The people feel the current situation and high inflation. We have started working to solve the inflation problem,” Pezeshkian remarked, signaling his government’s commitment to stabilizing the economy.

Pezeshkian emphasized the need to resolve internal differences and mend relations with neighboring countries and the international community, as these factors are closely tied to Iran’s economic success. “We must resolve differences within the country and the issues with our neighbors and the world. The economy is already related to external matters,” he stated, pointing to the interconnectedness of Iran’s economic and diplomatic strategies.

We are actively engaging with around 40 countries and are in the process of negotiating agreements. We must bridge gaps in foreign policy to enhance our economic stability.

We must give investors confidence that we will create the conditions for their success and remove legal obstacles. If investors trust us, they will bring their money back to the country.

Referencing guidance from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian highlighted the necessity of foreign investment to reach an 8% growth target.

“Experts believe we need $200 billion in investment for 8% growth. This is possible with increased capital and productivity within the country, but the total capital we have in the country does not exceed $100 billion. Therefore, we need $100 billion in foreign investment. This is related to our foreign relations, our relations with the world, our neighbors, and Iranians abroad,” Pezeshkian explained.
