Denizli Metropolitan Municipality hosted a remarkable ballet performance at the 2,200-year-old Western Theater of Laodicea, marking a stunning blend of history and culture.

This historic venue was graced by one of the world’s most acclaimed ballet pieces, “Zorba,” performed by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Company.

The event drew thousands of art enthusiasts who experienced an unforgettable night.

A night to remember in Laodicea

The ancient Laodicea Western Theater was the stage for an extraordinary cultural event. Hosted by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality and featuring the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, the performance of “Zorba” captivated the audience.

Adapted from Nikos Kazantzakis‘ famous novel and featuring Mikis Theodorakis’ brilliant compositions and Lorca Massine’s unique choreography, the performance was a highlight of the cultural calendar.

The event was attended by notable figures including Denizli Governor Omer Faruk Coskun, Denizli Mayor Bulent Nuri Cavusoglu, Deputy Mayor Ali Marim, General Secretary Bulent Bozbas, Ankara State Opera and Ballet Director Mithat Karakelle and thousands of art lovers.

Mayor’s appreciation, vision

Before the show, Mayor Bulent Nuri Cavusoglu expressed his delight in hosting such a special performance in a historic setting. He thanked all attendees and emphasized the city’s commitment to creating a city where art and artists thrive.

Mayor Cavusoglu highlighted the journey to build a city that thrives on tourism, agriculture, and livestock, without relying on external aid. He also expressed a wish for a city where art and culture flourish and extended his gratitude to the artists who made the event memorable.

Enthralling experience for thousands in Türkiye’s ancient theater

The performance, which filled the 15,000-seat Western Theater, was a resounding success. With choreography assistance by Elisa Arnone, set and oriental costume design by Gurcan Kubilay, costume design by Tulay Simsek, and lighting design by Fuat Gok, the two-hour show left the audience mesmerized.

Following the performance, the audience applauded the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Company’s artists with a standing ovation.

Denizli Governor Omer Faruk Coskun and Mayor Bulent Nuri Cavusoglu presented plaques to those who contributed to the event’s success.

Additionally, locals visiting Laodicea before the concert had the opportunity to explore the ancient city with guides, take commemorative photos, and connect with its rich history.
