Turkish Cabinet convenes in Türkiye’s eastern town Ahlat for 1st time under Erdogan
The Turkish Cabinet, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is holding its first-ever meeting in Ahlat, Bitlis, today as part of the 953rd anniversary of the Malazgirt Victory.
The meeting is taking place at the Ahlat Presidential Complex, where both domestic and international issues will be discussed.
Agenda includes counterterrorism, economic developments and Gaza
Among the key topics on the agenda are Türkiye’s ongoing counterterrorism operations, particularly the situation in northern Iraq and Syria. The Cabinet is expected to evaluate recent developments and discuss further steps in the fight against terrorism.
Economic developments are also a significant focus, with the Cabinet set to review the current state of the economy and explore potential measures to address ongoing challenges.
Another major issue on the table is the ongoing violence in Gaza. The Cabinet will discuss the situation in Gaza and assess the status of ceasefire negotiations.
Health concerns: Focus on mpox measures
Besides these topics, the Cabinet will review health concerns related to the monkeypox virus. Measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus will be examined to ensure that the necessary precautions are in place.
President Erdoğan is also scheduled to visit Ahlat and Malazgirt today and tomorrow, with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli expected to accompany him.
The Battle of Malazgirt (August 26, 1071), which has an important place in Turkish history, took place between the Seljuks and the Byzantines.
While this war put the Byzantine Empire into the process of collapse, it served as the gateway to Anatolia for the Seljuks. As a matter of fact, Anatolia became a Turkish homeland after this war.
