Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and global soccer icon, has set a new record by becoming the fastest person to amass 20 million subscribers on YouTube. The Portuguese superstar achieved the feat in just over 24 hours, surpassing the previous record held by MrBeast, who took more than two years to reach the same milestone.

Ronaldo, 39, launched his YouTube channel “UR” on Wednesday, quickly attracting more than one million subscribers within the first 90 minutes. His channel promises to provide fans with insights into his “greatest passion” — soccer — as well as glimpses into his life off the field, including his interests in family, wellness, nutrition, and business. Ronaldo will also engage in conversations with various guests on his channel.

“I am very happy to make this project come to life,” Ronaldo said in the announcement. “It has been in my mind for a long time but finally we have the opportunity to make it real. I have always enjoyed having such a strong relationship with fans on social media and my YouTube channel will give me an even bigger platform to do so, and they will learn more about me, my family, and my views on many different subjects.”

Ronaldo’s remarkable rise on YouTube comes as no surprise given his status as the most followed person on social media, boasting 917 million followers across various platforms. The launch of his YouTube channel adds another chapter to his storied career, which spans over two decades. During this time, he has played for prestigious clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, and now captains both Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr and the Portuguese national team.

In addition to his YouTube success, Ronaldo continues to break records on the soccer field. He holds the record for the most appearances, goals, and assists in both the UEFA Champions League and European Championship, as well as for the most international goals and international appearances. Over the course of his career, he has scored more than 890 official senior goals, making him the top scorer of all time for both club and country.

Though Ronaldo’s subscriber count continues to climb rapidly, MrBeast remains the most followed individual on YouTube with 311 million subscribers. However, given Ronaldo’s rapid ascent, the gap may not remain for long.
