Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the Israeli regime’s airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port last month were indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilians which could constitute war crimes.

Reuters, referencing Israel’s claim that on July 20, its warplanes targeted military sites near the Hodeidah port, reported that the attack hit military facilities and a power plant. HRW stated that at least six people were killed and 80 were injured in the attack.

The strike came a day after a Yemeni drone hit Israel’s economic center in Tel Aviv.

HRW noted that in the retaliation airstrikes on Hodeidah, more than two dozen oil storage tanks at the port and two cargo cranes, as well as a power plant in the Salif district of the province, were targeted.

The organization’s statement said, “The attacks caused disproportionate harm to civilians and civilian objects. The deliberate or reckless serious violation of the laws of war constitutes a war crime.”
