NATO PA Turkish Delegation head urges Turkish-American unity
Chairperson of the Turkish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mevlut Cavusoglu, emphasizes unity in addressing the upcoming U.S. elections during the Turkish Diaspora Meeting in New York
Mevlut Cavusoglu, ruling AK Party Antalya deputy and chairperson of the Turkish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, attended the Turkish Diaspora Meeting in New York, emphasizing the importance of Turkish-American unity to gain influence over U.S. Congress in the face of upcoming U.S. elections.
Cavusoglu gave a speech at the meeting organized by the Turkish American Steering Committee (TASC) at the New York Turkish Center. The meeting was attended by Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Sedat Onal, and New York Consul General Reyhan Ozgur.
“Regardless of political views or beliefs, every citizen is valuable to us,” Cavusoglu emphasized in his speech.
As the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Cavusoglu will undertake a series of visits with his delegation in the United States.
He expressed his pleasure in meeting with Turkish citizens in the U.S. and some civil society organizations from the Turkish world.
Cavusoglu highlighted the significance of unity within the Turkish-American community, stating, “We have the upcoming U.S. elections. The more united we are here, the more influence we will have on the U.S. Congress and state administrations.”
Furthermore, Cavusoglu expressed his gratitude, recalling the aid provided by the Turkish community living in the U.S. and American friends during the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras.
UN Representative Onal to be Türkiye’s ambassador to Washington
Meanwhile, speaking at the event, Permanent Representative to the U.N. Sedat Onal mentioned that starting next week, he will continue his duties as Türkiye’s ambassador to Washington and will continue his work with the Turkish-American community without interruption.
Cavusoglu was accompanied by ruling AK Party Edirne Deputy Fatma Aksal, CHP Tekirdag Deputy Faik Oztrak, and CHP Istanbul Deputy Fethi Acıkel during these meetings.
