Babadag hits new heights: 73K thrilling skydives over Oludeniz

Babadag in Fethiye, Mugla, hosted 73,670 paragliding flights in the first seven months of this year.

The region, now a popular destination for adventure seekers, continues to draw attention with its unique landscapes and thrilling experiences.

Erkan Karaoz, general manager of Babadag Teleferik, emphasized that the region is one of the world’s unique locations for paragliding.

He highlighted that Babadag is one of the rare places where you can land directly on the sea. Karaoz also noted the presence of alternative launch sites at 1,200, 1,700, 1,800, and 1,900 meters. He mentioned that flights are conducted from 1200 meters during winter due to weather conditions, with the Teleferik service remaining operational.

Karaoz stated that approximately 73,670 flights have been completed so far this year, both solo and tandem and expects this number to increase by the end of the season. He anticipated that the current peak, which began in August, would continue until the end of October.

“Currently, we have a higher number of British visitors, but our expatriate guests have not left us alone,” he added.

World championship excitement

Karaoz also highlighted that Babadag will host the World Paragliding Championship in September.

He noted that this event is of significant importance for promoting Türkiye and the region’s tourism potential, with athletes from around the world participating.

Paragliding pilots’ recommendations

Tuna Emrah Gok, a paragliding pilot for 12 years, praised Babadag’s launch site as unparalleled globally.

“Just three minutes after takeoff, we are above the sea and witnessing the Oludeniz view. This place is unique in the world in this regard,” he said.

Gok also reassured that there is nothing to fear in paragliding, as it is one of the safest aerial sports in the world.

Babadag continues to attract local and international tourists with its unique views and safe flying options. The region remains a favorite destination for thrill-seekers, with significant interest from British and Chinese tourists.
