Turkish armored vehicle manufacturers contribute significantly to UN peacekeeping operations, providing over 1000 vehicles to support international peace and stability efforts

Türkiye has gained recognition as one of the world’s top countries in armored vehicle production. This recognition is due to the high level of protection and mobility showcased by the products developed by Turkish armored vehicle manufacturers.

Over 50 countries aiming to equip security forces with the best technology available have opted for tactical wheeled vehicles and tracked vehicles developed by Turkish manufacturers.

These vehicles, including 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 tactical wheeled vehicles and tracked vehicles, are preferred not only for domestic needs but also for international missions.

The United Nations’ peace operations are among the most significant international activities globally, especially concerning military and security matters.

The concept of Peace Support Operations, which was first established in the Middle East in 1948 by a decision of the U.N. Security Council to maintain a cease-fire, has emerged as an important tool for preventing conflicts and crisis management. In the following years, particularly in the post-Cold War era, the scope, objectives, and nature of Peace Support Operations have changed and expanded parallel to the changes in the nature of conflicts.

Today, Peace Support Operations continue to be one of the most important tools in the hands of the international community for maintaining international peace and stability.

Countries contribute various resources, including troops, vehicles, and equipment, to U.N. Peace Operations. Countries that procure vehicles from Türkiye also participate in these operations with their soldiers and vehicles.

Approximately 500 Cobra and Cobra II vehicles produced by Turkish defense giant Otokar are actively deployed in U.N. Peace Operations in South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Mozambique, Mali, Gambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Somalia, and Haiti. When COBRA, COBRA II, and ARMA vehicles deployed in Yemen, Afghanistan, Ossetia, Ukraine, and Karabakh are added, this number approaches 1,000.

Nurol Makina vehicles are also used in UNIFIL, MINUSMA, and MINUSCA missions. The Ejder Yalcin 4×4 tactical wheeled armored vehicles produced for Chad served on the Mali border.

Ejder Yalcin vehicles belonging to Malaysia are also actively used in Lebanon. Some vehicles delivered to Senegal also participated in the U.N. mission in the Central African Republic.

Despite being exposed to numerous improvised explosive devices and ballistic attacks, vehicles provided zero casualties to the Chadian forces, thanks to the protection provided by the vehicles.

The 5,000-liter water tanker delivered to the Bangladesh army by BMC was also used to serve the civilian population. Vehicles with a 4×4 walking system are designed with features and equipment that will successfully fulfill their duties in all terrain conditions.

Turkish armored vehicle manufacturers contribute to the U.N.’s Peace Operations with more than 1,000 vehicles in total.
