Turkish federations to hold elections by Nov. 11 after Olympic failures
According to the law, sports federations affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports must hold their ordinary elective general assembly within three months after the Olympic Games end.
The 59 sports federations, other than the Turkish Ski Federation, Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, Turkish Ice Skating Federation, and Turkish Curling Federation, which are active in winter sports, will hold their elections within three months.
Within the next three months, elections will be held for 59 sports federations active in winter sports. This excludes the Turkish Ski Federation, Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, Turkish Ice Skating Federation, and Turkish Curling Federation, which primarily constitute winter sports.
The official three-month process started on Aug. 11, when Paris 2024 ended.
While some federations have announced their election dates, those that have not yet should be announcing their calendars shortly.
After the 2024 Paris Olympics, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Askin Bak said “federations will be held accountable” after Türkiye closed an Olympics without a gold medal for the first time after the 1984 Olympics.
On Aug. 12, the minister stated, “As the state of the Republic of Türkiye, we have provided our sports federations with the highest level of facilities,” adding, “These facilities we have provided are not available in many countries around the world.” The minister threatened to hold federations accountable if they failed to use these facilities efficiently.
Bak underlined that they will start preparations for Los Angeles 2028 immediately after Paris 2024 and said, “We will carry out this process in the best way possible. According to the law, there will be federation elections in 3 months. We and the clubs will evaluate their report cards.”
