A German poll has found that 68% of Germans are opposed to providing military support to Israel if the war in the region spills over into Lebanon or Iran.

Germans are more critical of Israel’s military activities in the region than they were in previous polls, according to the German ARD television channel.

  • 57% of respondents believe that Israel’s “response to the October 7, 2024, attacks went too far.”
  • 68% oppose “military support for Israel in case the war spills over into Lebanon or Iran,”  while
  • The percentage of those who “justify” the attacks on Gaza fell by 7 percentage points to 21%.
  • 61% believe that Israel is wholly or partly responsible for the situation in Gaza.

After the United States, Germany is Israel’s second-largest arms supplier.

Germany is the second largest arms exporter to Israel after the United States.

In 2023, the German government approved arms deliveries worth 326.5 million euros ($356.7 million) to Israel, as well as 308 licenses for the export of military equipment with a total value of around 327 million euros.
