In a recent television interview, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu provided updates on social media platform restrictions in Türkiye.

Regarding Instagram, Uraloglu stated, “Instagram could be restored at any moment. Only minor details remain; we want to open it.” He assured that the restoration of Instagram is a priority and that progress is being made to resolve the outstanding issues.

Will TikTok be banned?

On the topic of TikTok, Uraloglu clarified, “There is no ongoing process for blocking other platforms.” He emphasized that the focus is not on blocking or restricting social media but on enforcing national laws and rules.

He mentioned that while there are ongoing discussions, no current plans involve blocking TikTok or other platforms.

Uraloglu also addressed a recent court-ordered restriction on the gaming platform Roblox, explaining that the restriction was implemented based on a court decision sent to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) and was not initiated by the ministry or BTK.

Uraloglu reassured that the goal is to ensure compliance with national regulations while working toward restoring access to affected platforms.
