Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Said Iravani, addressed reports suggesting that Tehran would cease its intentions to attack Israel if the Tel Aviv administration permanently stopped its assaults on Gaza.

In a statement to Al Jazeera, Iravani clarified Iran’s stance on the ongoing conflict and the conditions under which Iran would reconsider its position.

Priorities for Iran

“Our priority is to ensure the permanent cessation of attacks and the withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza.” he said.

“Additionally, we seek the punishment of those involved in the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh. Another key focus is preventing the recurrence of terrorist attacks by the Israeli regime” Iravani stated.

Following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, there were expectations of an Iranian response targeting Israel.

However, claims emerged Iran might reconsider its intentions if Israel permanently halts its strikes on Gaza.

Iravani’s recent comments provide further insight into Iran’s conditions for such a change in stance where the world is still focusing on the scenario that Iran will launch a retaliatory attack.
