A 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea, the Kandilli Observatory announced Wednesday. This follows a series of three consecutive earthquakes that hit Adana earlier in the morning.

According to the Kandilli Observatory, the earthquake struck at 11:23 a.m., with an earlier 4.3 magnitude tremor occurring at 11:21 a.m. The depth of the 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded at 5.5 kilometers (3.42 miles). The Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) also reported the earthquake, noting a magnitude of 4.8.

Morning tremors in Adana

Earlier on Wednesday, Adana experienced three significant tremors starting at 5:32 a.m. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported no immediate damage or casualties following the seismic activity. Emergency response teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) are currently assessing the situation on the ground.

The series of earthquakes in both Adana and off the coast of Crete highlights the seismic activity in the Mediterranean region, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and preparedness.
