Ukraine’s Zelenskyy thanks US for aid, vows to stand firm against Putin

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed that Ukraine “will do everything” to make amends for the six months that elapsed while the nation awaited additional aid from the U.S. for Kyiv

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of standing up to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin instead of yielding to him, as this is the only way to effectively reduce threats to freedom. 

On April 20, following months of political debate and an escalating battlefield situation in Ukraine, the U.S. House of Representatives finally approved the vital foreign aid package, which provides Ukraine with $60.84 billion. Biden had initially requested that Congress approve the aid in October 2023.

“Now, we will do everything to compensate for the six months that have passed in debate and doubt,” Zelenskyy said. “All his (Putin’s) actions at the front, all his attacks on our energy sector and infrastructure, all his terror against our cities and villages – all this should mobilize us, everyone in the world who really values life, to put more pressure on Russia.”
